The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health applications are outpacing the national trends, which are also up, according to a Capital Times report.
UW medical school applications have increased 26% this year, compared to an increase nationally of 17%, according to the American College Application Service. Before this year, annual increases have been below 3%.
The pandemic has caused many gap-year plans to be canceled and students are taking advantage of the fewer distractions and more generous application deadlines. Additionally, the “Fauci effect” has led to students being inspired by evidence-based approaches to public health and health disparities, which have been a priority at UW.
