The North Central Group is now tackling the idea of building a hotel on the old Pahl Tire Site at East Washington Avenue and North Webster Street. The Alexander Co. gave up on a similar idea because of traffic and parking issues, and now the North Central Group is facing the same issues.
Its proposal calls for a 10-story, 150-room Marriott Courtyard on the site. Purchasing and razing a home next door could extend the lot, allowing 40 to 50 parking spots to be built under the hotel. Additional parking sites would be rented from the city. The plan includes a main entrance and drop-off area on North Webster Street, but traffic issues at the busy intersection, unless addressed, could doom the project.
