The owners of Williamson Street’s Ahan restaurant were named James Beard Award semifinalists on Wednesday in the “Best Chef Midwest” category, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Spouses Jamie and Chuckie Brown-Soukaseume moved their pan-Asian restaurant to the 744 Williamson St. space formerly occupied by Eldorado Grill in October 2023.
Jamie was a semifinalist in 2023 in the “Emerging Chef” national category when Ahan was located inside the Bur Oak music venue on Winnebago Street. In its new home, Ahan initially offered counter service but two weeks ago transitioned to full service, offering more seating as well.
Five Milwaukee chefs from three restaurants were also named semifinalists. Finalists will be announced on April 2, with winners announced June 16 at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony at Chicago’s Lyric Opera. This year marks the prestigious culinary awards’ 35th anniversary.
