Federal officials said Tam Phan, the owner of Middleton’s Happy Nails & Spa nail salon, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to tax evasion, according to WTMV15.

Investigators determined that a large percentage of the salon’s customers paid for services in cash between 2021-23, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Phan, the owner and sole proprietor of the business, located in the 1700 block of Deming Way, reported only the salon’s credit card sales on her tax returns during that time period.

Phan is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 28 and could face up to five years in prison.
