With the Oscar Mayer plant on Madison’s east side closing soon, Madison Mayor Paul Soglin says it may likely be facing demolition.

In a WKOW-TV report, Soglin says it may take as much as $20 million to demolish and remediate the 50-acre site, and that Madison is most interested in creating jobs to spur economic growth there versus more housing.

Another option could be for the city to purchase the plant, but Soglin warns either way it could sit for years before any changes are made.
