Abbott has acquired Madison’s Exact Sciences to get into the cancer diagnostics business, and now it has appointed Jake Orville, who managed Exact’s screening business, to lead that business unit.

Orville, who now is the senior vice president of Abbott’s cancer diagnostics business, reports directly to Abbott Chairman and CEO Robert Ford.

With the completion of Abbott’s acquisition of Exact Sciences, former Exact Chair and CEO Kevin Conroy will remain in an advisory role to support the company’s transition into Abbott.

“The Exact team has built a successful business that helps millions of people every year, and their presence and people will be additive to Abbott’s capabilities and team,” Scott Stoffel, divisional vice president of external communications for Abbott, said in an email.

He had been with Exact Sciences, best known for its Cologuard test for colorectal cancer, for seven years. He previously served as general manager of screening, leading the company’s efforts to develop additional tests for earlier cancer detection.

Exact Sciences is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Abbott, which first announced the acquisition last November pending regulatory approvals.
