Across the nation, live event providers and industry supporters will light up their buildings from dusk to midnight on Sept. 1 to support the #WeMakeEvents movement. The movement hopes to be “lit in red” to bring awareness to the continued struggles of the live event industry due to COVID-19.

Due to the pandemic, 62% of arts workers report that they are fully unemployed and 94% of arts workers report income loss. To date, the average arts worker reports $23,500 in lost revenue this year. The movement is calling on Congress to pass the RESTART Act offering economic relief to the live events industry.

Locally, the Overture Center, the Sylvee, the Majestic, the Orpheum, and the Barrymore will be lit in red from 9 p.m. until midnight on Sept. 1.
