According to a new poll from the Associated Press and NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, just about half of Americans who had experienced a layoff in their family during the COVID-19 pandemic now feel those jobs are lost forever.
With these latest results, the poll has identified that initial optimism about jobs returning has faded. Seventy-eight percent of those with household job losses felt in April that they would be temporary. Now, the new information could mean nearly 10 million workers will need to find a new employer, if not a new occupation.
