OpenAI backs bill limiting AI liability in mass death

Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi hits aside, OpenAI is supporting an Illinois state bill that would shield AI labs when it comes to liability in cases where AI models were used to cause death, serious injury of 100 people or more and at least $1 billion in property damage, Wired reported.  

Until now, AI companies had typically opposed bills that would make them liable for the harm they cause, but this is a shift to be more proactive in protecting the industry.  

Wired reported that AI policy experts called SB 3444 an extreme measure.
