The idea of transforming the Olbrich Park beach house into a German-style summer beer garden is making its way through city committees.
The proposal, from BKM Group, suggests a renovation of the beach house, outdoor seating for 250, and a simple menu the might include brats and soft pretzels with the public being invited to bring their own food. No hard liquor would be served, and the garden would close at 10 p.m. between May and October. Rutabaga Paddlesports would share a portion of the building and provide watercraft rentals.
The proposal has to make it through several committees, but according to a story in The Capital Times reaction has been positive. BKM Group would like to open the garden next spring.
