Occupy Madison’s third tiny house village received Plan Commission approval on Monday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. It now awaits a greenlight from the City Council.
The commission approved Occupy Madison’s request to change a far east side property’s zoning from “Industrial-Limited” to the “Tiny House Village” zoning district. Plans include 22 portable housing units and a shared building at 201–205 S. Stoughton Road.
The site will also serve as a manufacturing spot for wooden tiny houses for all three of Occupy Madison’s communities. The organization plans to replace the temporary huts at its 1901 Aberg Ave. site with wooden structures and move the temporary huts to the new South Stoughton Road property. The first residents would move into the new location by early summer 2025; all of the wooden tiny houses would be completed by 2029.
City staff deemed the existing and planned sidewalks and streetlights at the site sufficient to support rezoning but noted that pedestrian infrastructure is limited.
