According to MTD Marketing Services of Menasha, the number of building permits issued in November for new single-family homes and duplexes in Dane County (46) increased 53% over November 2011 (30). It was the highest total recorded in November since 2007, and the 10th time in 11 months building permits increased compared to the same month last year.
Year-to-date through November, Dane County has recorded 718 housing starts compared to 566 for the same period in 2011, an increase of nearly 27%.
In Madison, home starts increased 21.7% January through November compared to 2011, and while the average value of the permits increased slightly to $218,158, the average square footage decreased to 2,229, compared with 2,360 a year earlier.
