Milwaukee’s ninth largest employer, Northwestern Mutual, will cut 100 jobs this year and “hundreds” next year, according to a report in the Milwaukee Business Journal.

CEO John Schlifske told employees the cuts are being forced by interest rates.

The company has generated $6 billion less income as a result of low interest rates in fixed-income investments.
