Madison-based Northstar Medical Radioisotopes has signed a non-exclusive letter of intent with Florida-based Triad Isotopes, Inc., to help bring modybdenum-99 (Mo-99) to market. The U.S. Department of Energy has mandated the creation of the first commercially viable domestic source of Mo-99, the most widely used radioisotope in medical diagnostic imaging. A worldwide shortage of Mo-99 has reportedly led to safety and national security concerns. Once NorthStar receives approval from the FDA and its non-uranium-based Mo-99 is commercially available, Triad, the second-largest radiopharmacy chain in the U.S., will buy and lease the company’s products.
