The Urban League of Greater Madison, Centro Hispano, and Madison College are partnering as one of three teams in the running to help the city undertake an up to $200 million south side Madison redevelopment, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The other finalist teams include Alexander Co. joined with Captains Inc. and New Year Investments, and Kenosha’s Bear Development joined with Greenprint Partners of Chicago.
The project, concerning the former Metro Transit South Transfer Point, would reimagine the area to include office space, housing, a relocated city fire station, a public health clinic, and parking. The city received six responses to its request for developer qualifications and ultimately chose three development teams to present to the Community Development Authority (CDA) board at 4:30 this afternoon.
Initial concepts from the CDA feature a phased project bringing three new buildings to the corner of South Park Street and West Badger Road. The Urban League, Centro, and Madison College all have new facilities in close proximity to the redevelopment site, and the Alexander Co. and New Year Investments are based on the south side as well.
If the CDA board’s recommendation of one of the teams is secured, staff will craft a contract, also requiring board approval. After that, community engagement and feasibility studies would commence, leading to the creation of a master plan.
