A licensed adult family home providing end-of-life care to people experiencing housing insecurity and terminal illness opened April 23, Channel3000 reports. Solace Home, operated by local nonprofit Solace Friends Inc. and based in a townhouse on Monona Drive, creates a solution for residents who may be ineligible for conventional hospitals, hospices, or similar options.
The facility is open for referrals and is the first of its kind in Wisconsin. It creates a comfortable environment for individuals reaching the end of their lives, regardless of access to insurance or income, with staff. Volunteers assist with residents’ medications, meals, laundry, and more. Residents with no income can receive free care, while those earning a monthly income can pay on a sliding scale.
Staff are trained to support residents with mental health or substance abuse issues, and Solace Home collaborates with four area hospice agencies in developing and managing care plans for each resident.
