Quincy, Illinois-based Niemann Foods Inc. is opening a new Ace Hardware store in the former Ace Hardware space in Lakeside Shopping Center, at 211 Cottage Grove Road, in Madison. The former Ace store closed in 2018 when store owner Bob Lochner was unable to successfully negotiate a lease renewal with mall owner Dale Scholl. Lochner sold his remaining four area stores to Niemann Foods in January 2021. Developer Joe Krupp proposed a 188-unit, mixed-use project for the site but was unable to purchase the lease of NerdHaven Arcade, a tenant in the center. Niemann’s website states that it is seeking employees for the positions of store director, shift manager, and hardware sales associates at the Cottage Grove Road location.
