State Street’s Nick’s Restaurant will close May 11 following 65 years of business, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. A Mexican restaurant will replace it, according to Dino Christ, who has owned Nick’s with his brother, Tom, since 1996. The two also shared ownership of the diner and bar with their father, Arist Christ, until his death in 2009. It has been in their family since the 1960s, when Christ’s father partnered with the original owners, Nick and Serena Christakos, after a few years of operation.
A real estate ad last August said the 3,000-square-foot space was immediately available for a five-year lease, with a modified gross rent of $7,200 per month. Christ said the business has struggled since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The lease with the space’s new owners is contingent upon the transfer of the liquor license, set to occur next month.
