The National Federation of Independent Business, a Wisconsin-based small business advocacy organization, said in a statement it was disappointed with Gov. Tony Evers’ veto of the “Red Tape Reset” Package.
“States with fewer regulations experience faster economic growth, higher productivity and greater competitiveness,” NFIB Wisconsin State Director Luke Bacher said in a statement. “Wisconsin is the 13th most regulated state in the country and second worst in the Midwest. This unnecessary overregulation is costly and only hurts small businesses, employees and our local economies.”
In his veto message, Evers said the legislation “would impose an undue administrative burden on state agencies.”
A study by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, a nonprofit conservative law firm based in Milwaukee, found that reducing the state’s regulatory burden by 10% could increase Wisconsin’s GDP by $6.6 billion.
