A new bill in the Wisconsin Legislature would ensure all students receive affordable and attainable pathways to college credits during high school.

According to Wisconsin Public Radio, over a quarter of Wisconsin high school students are earning college credits through dual enrollment programs, but location and economic status create barriers for some participants.

The Republican-led “Dual Enrollment Reform Bill” would try to simplify the process and make it more accessible.

Sens. Rachael Cabral-Guevara, R-Appleton, and Andre Jacque, R-New Franklin, and Reps. Joel Kitchens, R-Sturgeon Bay, and David Murphy, R-Greenville, co-authored the bill.

The bill would create an oversight council and an online information portal, ensuring parents and students receive the necessary information for opportunities to earn college credits.
