Shorewood Hills made an offer to purchase the Lodgic Building for $6.5 million, but canceled the bid on Oct. 21 after “weeks of community opposition” in a 5-2 vote by the village board, the Cap Times reports.
The village was considering the 2801 Marshall Ct. location to replace its village hall on Shorewood Boulevard after deeming it energy inefficient.
The Lodgic building previously functioned as a coworking space, day care center and restaurant.
Initial proposals suggested moving the village hall, police station and community services to the Lodgic Building, but residents have criticized the decision since August.
The main complaints focus on a lack of transparency and public involvement in the decision-making process.
A board member and locals also proposed village board president John Imes resign from his role, citing a lack of transparency.
