According to a new report from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Research on the Wisconsin Economy, health care costs in Wisconsin are rising faster than wages.

Wisconsin Public Radio reported on the findings, which showed the cost of insurance and health care increasing by 140% between 2000 and 2025. In that same time frame, the median household income in Wisconsin increased by about 83%.

Much of the rising costs are due to hospital prices being so high, with Wisconsin hospitals charging private insurers an average 321% of Medicare rates, which makes it the highest in the Midwest and fourth highest in the nation.
