Three new proposals have been submitted to the city of Madison for the 800 block of East Washington Avenue, and all include housing, commercial space, and grocery stores:
C.D. Smith Construction of Fond du Lac proposed a 131,000-sq.-ft. development that would include a 35,000-sq.-ft. grocery store with a rooftop farm, 61,000 sq. ft. of office space, and 200 housing units. The cost would likely exceed $60 million. An above-ground parking structure would offer 695 spaces. Smith is partnering with the Mandel Group and Engberg Anderson.
Gebhardt Development teamed up with Metcalfe’s Market of Madison on a proposed $65 million, 100,000-sq.-ft. project that would include a 50,000-sq.-ft. grocery store, an urban bistro with a rooftop garden, and about 262 rental and owner-occupied live/work units. A parking structure would include 523 spaces.
T. Wall Enterprises joined forces with Plunkett Raysich Architects on a plan for a smaller project covering a minimum of 65,000 sq. ft. The proposal calls for a historic architectural theme that would include a 35,000-sq.-ft. grocery, between 225 and 250 housing units, and commercial space. An undisclosed number of parking spaces would be both above and below ground. No cost estimate was available for this project, which would also include a fitness center and library.
Both C.D. Smith and T. Wall Enterprises are working with Fresh Madison Market on the grocery component of their proposals.
