The Progress Center for Black Women has launched a pilot initiative, The Financial Health Academy, aimed at improving the overall financial health of Black families in Dane County, according to a statement from the organization. The hybrid, six-week, multigenerational, and family-friendly challenge is for Black households with at least one young person between the ages of 13–21 and includes curated educational content based on the individual needs of each cohort.
Each participating family will be supported by Dane County’s Financial Education Center and Dr. Algernon Felice, director of Cultural Bridges Treatment & Consulting LLC. Upon completion of the six-week challenge, each family will be awarded up to $1,000 to be used toward their financial goal. The program is partially funded by UW Health, UnityPoint Health – Meriter, Quartz, and United Way of Dane County. The application window for the program is April 29–May 26, 2021.
