All state residents will need to dial 10 digits to make local calls beginning Oct. 24, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The protocol is part of a move by the Federal Communications Commission and will even affect people dialing within their area codes.
Currently, residents in most of the state can dial locally without adding the area code. More than 80 area codes in more than 30 states will be affected, including Wisconsin area codes: 262, 414, 608, and 920.
