Willy Street Co-op’s new Northside location has “softly” opened its doors at 2817 N. Sherman Avenue. The store will have an official Grand Opening Celebration in mid-September.
With 20,000 square feet, the Sherman Avenue location will be the co-op’s largest store, about the size of the existing Willy East and Willy West stores combined. The store initially will offer fresh seafood, FoodShare and WIC acceptance, beer and wine sales (pending permits), and outdoor seating upon completion of facade work.
The soft opening of Willy North allows the co-op to provide the surrounding neighborhood with groceries while still applying the finishing touches to the building.
The Co-op’s goal of raising $1.5 million by Aug.1 in support of Willy North was met, as several bond-drive matching challenges helped top the original goal.
