A New London cheese plant that has been in business for more than 60 years will close in August. Saputo Cheese is closing its plant because updating it would prove too costly, according to reports. About 78 positions will be lost. The Montreal-based company will also close a plant in Maryland and two in Canada as it consolidates operations, affecting a total of about 180 jobs. Saputo purchased the New London plant in 1998.
