The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp. (SCEDC) is going on record in support of building another proposed Kohler golf course. In a release, the board said the project would establish a fifth world-class golf course in the area and significantly benefit the community.

“Kohler Co. has a proven track record of environmental stewardship and of operating championship-caliber courses that reflect innovation and a commitment to sustainability,” said SCEDC Director Dane Checolinski.

Studies on the proposed course, to be located in the Town of Wilson, suggest it would average 63 rounds of golf daily, 80% from out-of-state golfers who would spend nearly $18,000 in off-course activities (food, lodging). The new course would reportedly create 168 full- and part-time jobs and generate nearly $1.1 million a year in new tax revenue. All told, the annual economic impact to the county would be $20.6 million.

Kohler Co.’s Whistling Straits golf course will host the 2015 PGA Championship golf tournament from Aug. 10-16.
