East side Madison’s The Atwood Scoop, located on the corner of Atwood Avenue and Jackson Street, has closed, the Wisconsin State Journal reports, but the owners plan to rent the space to Jele Magdalina, who will open a new ice cream shop. The closure of The Atwood Scoop, according to its owners, follows four seasons of its outperformance by the nearby Chocolate Shoppe.

The new spot will be called the Sassy Scoop, in reference both to the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara, or SASY, neighborhood as well as the 18 flavors of Columbus-based Sassy Cow Creamery ice cream Magdalina plans to sell. The shop will also offer shakes, vegan ice cream, and Madison-based Let It Ride Cold Brewed Coffee.

The Sassy Scoop will be seasonal and managed by Koby Seaborne. Magdalina plans to open as soon as possible and offer free ice cream for mothers on Mother’s Day.
