Madison’s Community Development Authority is looking to develop 25 single-family, owner-occupied homes on Allied Drive, a neighborhood once notorious for its problems with crime and drugs. It has been making a turnaround over the past several years.
The CDA wants to bring more of a neighborhood feel to the area. Some of the homes, which are being developed by Destree Architects, would be one- and two-story structures with two to four bedrooms. They would be Green Built Certified and cost between $185,000 and $225,000. One-third of the homes would be reserved for those making 50% of the area median income ($40,450 for a family of four). Another third would be available to households with incomes up to 80% of the area median income ($64,400 for a family of four). The rest would be sold at market rate.
CDA is working with others to reduce construction costs and offer subsidies to buyers earning less than 80% of the median income.
