A new $18 million Centro Hispano of Dane County building on Madison’s south side is now fully funded and has $2 million in startup operational funds, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The announcement followed a larger-than-expected donation from Yield Giving, a foundation established by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, after a two-year fundraising campaign. Scott is a novelist and co-founded Amazon with her ex-husband, Jeff Bezos.
Yield Giving provided the final $2 million needed to support nonprofit Centro’s efforts to replace its aging building at 810 W. Badger Road. Its new home at 2403 Cypress Way will provide 25,000 square feet of space for programming and a growing staff. The organization serves over 2,500 Latino families annually.
Offerings at the new location will include workforce development programs, a weekly Zumba class, a seasonal farmers market, and more. The structure’s design is sustainable and state-of-the-art.
The new Centro space will open with a public celebration on April 26.
