Recently-passed funding legislation will bring more than $1 million to the Verona community in support of local pantry, Badger Prairie Needs Network (BPNN), according to the Verona Press. Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate passed six of 12 appropriations bills for fiscal year 2024, which include money that will directly benefit the Second Congressional District.

Verona’s BPNN will receive roughly $1.1 million to support current renovations, expand food storage capacity, and address the community’s rising need for food assistance; BPNN is now serving five times the number of people it did prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and last year distributed 2.1 million pounds of food.

To better serve the community and manage this high capacity, additional warehouse space is necessary. Seventy-five percent of the $3.6 million needed for the BPNN project has been raised, including private donations, and fundraising efforts are ongoing. To donate, click here.
