U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin is leading federal legislation that would require health insurance companies to allow people to sign up for coverage after they become pregnant, the Cap Times reports.
Currently, pregnancy does not count as a life event, allowing people to sign up for coverage, unlike the birth of a baby.
The legislation was introduced last month and has the co-sponsorship of about a dozen other Democrats in the Senate and has been referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
