Nearly half of the $2.7 million allocated for a planned renovation of Monona Terrace scheduled to begin in January will be spent on the facility’s 16 bathrooms. Reportedly, corners were cut when the facility was first constructed because of a strict budget. Now, at a cost of nearly $75,000 per bathroom ($1.2 million total), plumbing issues will be fixed. Also part of Monona Terrace’s renovation plan: the carpeting will be replaced ($1.1 million), electronic signage will be added, the kitchen will undergo improvements, some chairs and benches will be reupholstered, the ceiling will be repainted, and rooftop seating will be enhanced.

Monona Terrace will be closed in January during the renovation.
