According to a CNN report, just over 450,000 women have left the U.S. workforce since January. Nearly 300,000 of those women are Black.

In the report, burnout is cited as a major reason for leaving a job, particularly when children are involved.

Child care remains unaffordable for many, with the Economic Policy Institute putting the lowest cost per year of child care at just under $7,000, and the most at nearly $30,000.

Wisconsin’s median annual cost for infant care is nearly $17,000, or 16% of median family income. Advocates have called for more state investment in child care to provide relief to families and providers.
