Archipelago Village, a property owner represented by Curt Brink, is looking to demolish some East Washington Avenue structures for redevelopment. After StartingBlock Madison, a planned incubator for tech startups, inventors, and young businesses, announced plans to move into the Kleuter Building at 901 East Washington Ave., Archipelago Village, tying in with the StartingBlock plan, filed notices with the city to demolish seven buildings on the 900 block of East Washington Avenue and East Main Street, including a one-story warehouse that would be replaced by a five-story addition to the StartingBlock Madison project.
Demolition of the remaining six buildings would make way for parking and future development opportunities that could include dense development rising to 12 stories. The Kleuter Building, most recently a Mautz Paint warehouse, would be preserved, as would buildings at 949 East Washington Ave. and 946 East Main St.
Archipelago Village will file a formal demolition application in September with the Plan and Urban Design Commission.
