NBC15 and many NBC stations nationwide are partnering with local shelters for the month of August to promote pet adoption and raise funds for animal welfare through the ninth-annual Clear the Shelters event.

The Dane County Humane Society (DCHS) typically sees an average of 20 pets adopted per weekend, but during a Clear the Shelters weekend last year, the organization found homes for over 80 pets.

Participating shelters this year include:

  • DCHS in Madison;
  • 9 Lives Rescue Inc. in Middleton;
  • Angel’s Wish Pet Adoption and Resource Center in Verona; and
  • Iowa County Humane Society in Dodgeville.

DCHS will reduce adoption fees for a different group of animals each week over the first three weeks of August. Adoptions are first come, first served. Additional information is available on the shelter’s website.
