In an effort to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its software, Epic Systems Corp. is undertaking roughly 100 projects aiming to streamline health care for doctors and patients, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Epic’s patient portal, MyChart, could in the future assist patients with overall health management or provide personalized health care reminders, and the company is testing a bot that in some cases would use MyChart to replace a doctor’s visit.
The company shared the news at its annual User Group Meeting Tuesday, with 12,000 attendees in the Deep Space Auditorium and an additional 32,000 tuning in worldwide.
AI integration isn’t new to Epic, and multiple hospital systems across the nation are already using its AI software to listen to patient visits (with their consent), draft post-visit summaries, create a lineup of medication orders for doctor approval, and monitor high-fall-risk patients using cameras in their rooms.
