Schools in Mt. Horeb and Evansville were closed today after their school buses experienced mechanical issues caused by the bitter cold, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The wind chill advisory for southern Wisconsin remains effective until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, with temperatures at or below negative 10 degrees and wind chills as low as negative 35 degrees.
Both school districts announced cancelation of classes around 7 a.m. this morning. A statement from the Mt. Horeb Area School District cited freezing fuel lines among its school buses and said that, while additives are being used to prevent the occurrence, they were clearly not fully effective.
A number of other Wisconsin schools continued to experience closures or delayed start times as well.
