The owners of a Madison record store have announced they’re selling the store after 35 years, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Strictly Discs owners Ron and Angie Roloff opened the business in 1988, and its current location at 1900 Monroe St. houses nearly 500,000 records, CDs, and cassettes.
The store will be taken over by new owner Rick Stoner, who plans to retain all current store operations and staff. The Roloffs will continue their day-to-day roles through the end of the year and then plan to retire.
Stoner’s long-term ideas for the store include offering a monthly subscription-based record club, vinyl pop-up shops at music festivals, and expanding to other locations. Stoner plans to open a retail space in Cambridge by June; the Roloffs have been using the building primarily as a warehouse for inventory.
