Monona Grove teachers rallied outside of the high school on Tuesday in protest of a school board decision they say threatens their job security, NBC15 reports. The decision concerns changes to their employee handbook.
The tension between teachers and the administration comes just ahead of Monona Grove School District’s start of the year this Friday.
Teachers at the rally said their superintendent and school board changed the language of the employee handbook behind the teachers’ backs, taking away due process and making it easier to not renew a teacher.
The teachers, along with the Monona Grove Education Association (MGEA), are pushing for the superintendent and school board to change the handbook back. According to the president of MGEA, the school board agreed to discuss the issue at a special meeting or at their next meeting on Sept. 13.
