After surviving for 86 years, Tony Frank’s Tavern, located at 1612 Seminole Highway, was forced to close June 22 under the weight of crushing debt.

Owner Jim Frank said nearby bridge construction and a rough winter during the past two years contributed to the bar’s financial troubles. The bar lost $100,000, which it’s never recouped, according to Frank.

Frank is seeking investors for a plan to reopen the facility as Tony Frank’s Family Tavern, a more family-oriented restaurant with an ice cream bar and a new menu catering to children and families.
