The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) announced Bryanna Krekeler as its first-ever sustainability program manager, a role that will be responsible for developing and implementing district-wide sustainability and environmental strategies, policies, and training.

Throughout her career, and most recently as an energy specialist in the Madison office of a national, Minneapolis-based architecture, engineering, and planning firm, Krekeler has led projects that optimize energy use, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance building performance across various settings. Her particular areas of expertise include project management, energy modeling, building commissioning, retro-commissioning, and decarbonization.

In 2024, the MMSD Board of Education updated the renewable energy resolution it adopted in 2019, committing the district to achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Energy efficiency and sustainability are also core focus areas in MMSD’s 2024 facilities referendum work.

Before transitioning into the fields of engineering and sustainability, Krekeler taught mathematics at the middle school level. She holds Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Kansas in architectural engineering and the University of Minnesota in economics, math, and statistics, as well as a master’s degree in teaching from Northwest University.
