The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) announced the formalization of its partnership with Madison Reading Project (MRP), a nonprofit that has been connecting community members with free books and literacy resources for more than a decade.
Since 2017, MRP has participated in MMSD’s annual Read Your Heart Out celebrations, provided free book fairs, brought its Big Red Reading Bus directly to school campuses and supported educators with books to grow classroom libraries. MRP gives over 50,000 brand-new books to MMSD students, families and educators each year.
This partnership aligns with MMSD’s Mad for Reading initiative, launched in February 2025 with the goal of amplifying Madison’s shared commitment to literacy. Mad for Reading programming includes author visits to schools, “Battle of the Books” competitions, community and family literacy events and more.
