The Madison Metropolitan School District’s (MMSD) preliminary 2025-26 budget will go before the school board for approval on June 23, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The 25,000-student district plans to spend roughly $564.4 million on operations, on revenues of about $557.1 million.
Spending in the coming school year will be up around 3.4% from the 2024-25 school year. Revenues, meanwhile, are expected to be up about 5.83%.
Roughly $190.7 million, the largest portion of the district’s expenditures, will go toward day-to-day, regular instruction, a year-over-year increase of 12.5%. Administrative spending is anticipated to total around $49.5 million, down around 20.2% from last year.
At the end of the year, MMSD projects that it will have about $82.7 million leftover, or the equivalent of around 14.7% of its planned expenditures.
The cost to the owner of an average home in the district — valued at $478,413 — will be roughly $5,031, or about $834 more than last year.
