The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) Board of Education unanimously voted to approve the preliminary 2025–26 budget, totaling $796.5 million. Highlights of the budget include:

  • Maintaining and expanding academic and co-curricular programming made possible by the November 2024 operating referendum;

  • Sustaining investment in staff compensation and development;

  • Supporting multilingual and early learning programs, including the Hmong Heritage Language and Bilingual Program and expanded 4K access;

  • Advancing early college and career exploration initiatives, including MMSD’s new Early College Academies and CTE Middle School Summer Discovery program; and

  • Preparing for major facilities projects funded by the 2024 facilities referendum, with construction on four schools slated to begin in early 2026.

Staff will continue to refine the 2025–26 preliminary budget over the summer months as updated information on enrollment, staffing and state aid are received. A final budget is expected to be adopted by the Board of Education in October. Click here to learn more.
