The Madison Metropolitan School Board elected to extend Superintendent Joe Gothard’s contract with the district through June 2027, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Gothard has held the position since July 2024; the board vote Monday will extend his employment agreement by an additional year.

In his role, Gothard will lead the district through the design and construction of 10 new school buildings funded by the $507 million referendum passed in November 2024. He has also promised to support increases in special education funding to state lawmakers.

According to the contract, Gothard’s starting salary is $299,000, with at least a 2% pay increase each year of the contract and $25,000 in annual retirement contributions to a 403(b) account.
