The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), in recognition of November as Homelessness Awareness Month, is collecting donations for families of students experiencing homelessness or with emergent needs, according to NBC15.
The district’s kickoff event saw donations of hygiene items and new or gently used warm clothing. MMSD will continue accepting donations through December. Other donated items may include hair and skin products, feminine products, winter boots, snow pants, coats, and waterproof gloves.
Seven hundred students in Madison have been identified as experiencing homelessness; that number is expected to rise to 1,000 by the school year’s end.
