According to NBC15, an amendment to MMSD’s 2024 budget would provide increased funding for an alternative education program for high school students, Operation Fresh Start.

The current school year’s contract with the program, presented in August, would cut the district’s financial support by 52%. At the same time, according to Operation Fresh Start, the number of student referrals to the program is at a record high.

The organization’s Legacy Program serves MMSD students ages 16–24. Services include mentoring, education, and employment training, with the goal of helping young adults graduate high school and begin life-sustaining careers.
