The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art’s rooftop sculpture garden is getting a nearly $3 million upgrade to coincide with the museum’s 20th anniversary at its downtown location — and its 125th as a museum — according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The sculpture garden closed Monday and will not reopen until the renovation is complete in spring of next year. The refurbished space will feature native plants, improved lighting and a water feature to attract pollinators.

Roof improvements are being implemented as well to protect the museum’s collections.

In the meantime, some sculptures have been relocated to the MMoCA lobby.
